Accelerating Director-Level Talent Through a High-Potential Leadership Program
Participants: Director Level Leaders enterprise-wide
Number of participants: 25
Engagement Length: 6 months
Focus Area: Accelerate the readiness of Director-level leaders to build bench strength
Background:
A national grocery retailer, navigating a rapidly evolving and competitive market, recognized the urgent need to elevate leadership capacity at the Director level. These senior-level leaders played a pivotal role in translating strategy into action across the organization. However, while they excelled as operational and functional managers, they often lacked the strategic perspective, enterprise-wide thinking, and collaborative leadership required for broader impact. Many had advanced within siloed functions and had limited exposure to cross-functional collaboration or change leadership. To ensure long-term, sustainable growth, the organization needed to accelerate their readiness to take on greater scope, influence, and accountability.
Goal:
Design and deliver a High-Potential Development Program to:
Deepen leadership capacity and enterprise thinking
Prepare Directors for roles with greater scope, influence and accountability
Enhance self-awareness and adaptability through coaching and psychometric insights
Drive the application of learning to real business challenges
Solution:
Leadership Accelerator Program - a 6-month, cohort-based program combining assessment, development, coaching, and applied learning. Program components included psychometric assessments and insights, learning modules on growing potential, driving performance through collaboration, leading change and innovation, and strategic problem-solving.
Results:
100% of participants recommended the program
The program is now a flagship pipeline initiative tied to annual succession planning
The program created a strong internal leadership network, improving alignment and execution across regional operations
Deeper bench strength for lateral and level-up roles
Over 95% of participants found that the program provided insights into their strengths and how they could develop as leaders
